WHY I LOVE THESE HEIRLOOMS
WHY I LOVE THESE HEIRLOOMS
FRENCH CHIVES are believed to be native to both China and Europe, with origins throughout the Balkans, Siberia, and China dating back to 3,000 BCE. Marco Polo is often credited with spreading Chives throughout Europe after his travels in the East. Chives are a perennial herb and a good source of calcium, iron, phosphorus, and sulfur. They also contain high amounts of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and B vitamins. Chives have been used medicinally for thousands of years, offering a mild stimulant effect and antiseptic, antibacterial, diuretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. They have historically been used to treat sore throats and are said to be beneficial for digestion and circulation.
TASTING NOTE: Mind Onion Flavour
STAR-FLOWER Borage grows on plants 60 - 90cm tall. These sky-blue, star-shaped flowers grow in clusters at the very top of the plants. They have the scent & taste reminiscent of cucumbers or melons. They look beautiful froze in ice blocks or floating on top of a gorgeous glass of pink gin & tonic.
TASTING NOTE: Fresh & Melony
VIOLAS are one of the cheeriest little flowers to grace the landscape. True violets are different from African violets, which are natives of East Africa. Violas are indigenous to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. True violets have been cultivated since at least 500 B.C. Their uses were more than ornamental, with flavoring and medicinal applications high on the list. Their beautiful heart-shaped little faces are a gorgeous garnish in a cool blue glass of gin .
